Brighter Futures Maths and English

All students aged 16-18 who haven’t achieved English and Maths at grade 4 or above will be required to work towards maths and English qualifications while on their course of study. For any students with a grade 2 or below we will assess their starting points and then agree if any stepping stone qualifications like Functional Skills are studied first.

We are an accredited centre with Pearson (Edexcel) and AQA for GCSE English and Maths qualifications and both programmes follow the Post-16 One Year Resit programme. The GCSE Maths focuses on the areas of Number, Algebra, Ratio, proportion and rates of change, Geometry and measures, Probability and Statistics. Students will complete three equally-weighted written examination papers. GCSE English Language focuses on creative writing, transactional writing, reading and speaking and listening. Students will complete two examination papers, Paper 1: Fiction and Imaginative Writing and Paper 2 Non-fiction and Transactional Writing.

Students will have weekly timetabled lessons and additional sessions will be offered for any students that want additional support throughout the programme. We also use online platforms such as My maths and Skills Forward to develop digital skills and incorporate different learning styles. These platforms include a range of interactive activities from videos to quizzes to engage learners and encourage learning.

Sysco have a bank of English and maths specialists who deliver innovative sessions and provide support to students dependent on their needs. They are also responsible for driving the English and maths Curriculum forward with the team. Our full time English tutors are Lyndsey Howard and Nina Cronley and maths tutors are Cathy Chan and Anne Sutton. We also have tutors who work on an associate basis within the team.
