Through the delivery of our accredited Animal Care Vocational qualifications, students wishing to progress into employment within the Animal Care industry pick up a range of sector specific skills and knowledge. The Animal Care Vocational curriculum also supports our students in moving into related industries, allowing for a breadth of opportunity for careers progression which is enhanced by the transferable skills embedded within the wider Study Programme curriculum.

Brighter Futures aims to develop these employability skills within students during the academic year with the intention to support them into meaningful, sustained employment once their education is complete.

Why the Animal Care Industry is a Good Employment Progression Route?

The Animal Care industry is worth £1 billion to the UK economy. It has 13,000 businesses, 78,000 employees and lots of volunteers. Employment in the Animal Care sector is varied and includes job roles such as veterinary nurses, dog training (including animals in entertainment and education, as well as working dogs), pet styling and grooming, animal welfare charities, animal care services (for example animal hydrotherapy, dog walkers/sitters), zoos and wildlife parks (including wildlife rehabilitation), pet shops, animal boarding establishments, animal breeding, animal visitor attractions and animal related public services (for example dog/animal wardens). 

We are supportive of the Pet Industry Federation’s aims to promote best practice in animal welfare by improving industry standards, ensuring the future workforce are appropriately trained to carry out their job role and that they have a comprehensive understanding of products, services and procedures, ensuring customer satisfaction at all times and providing customers with clear and current information about products and services in a polite and professional manner.
